Module 2.1 – Creating an ePortfolio

Our first Module consists of creating an ePortfolio to showcase our work done during the duration of the MIST program.

When deciding which website builder to use, I reviewed the different ones I’ve used and decided on WordPress. I have the most experience with WordPress, and I appreciate that it can still build robust websites, offers a wide range of themes and plugins to use, and can be both complex and straightforward in design and user interface.

While setting up this online portfolio, I had several key considerations in mind.

  • Keep the website’s style clean, easy to read, and easy to modify, as it’s the start of the program, and many changes will be made in the future.
  • Navigation to be kept clear. I don’t want visitors to get lost while browsing my website. I wanted a straightforward menu that lets users find their way around easily.
  • When it came to design, I wanted a theme that was minimalist in appearance, yet still conveyed a professional feel.

While building this ePortfolio, I quickly realized how much of WordPress I had forgotten how to use, as well as how much has changed since the last time I used it. I’ve always loved working on web design and building, so relearning and researching how to work on my website has been enjoyable, and I’m sure it will continue to change as I continue to learn as well.
